Service Learning Opportunities

Under the supervision of school counselor Mrs. Cheryl Dopson, RCP students have an opportunity to be actively engaged in the community during the school year. Participation in service learning opportunities, like career fairs and guest speaker events, provide students with an opportunity to meet and talk with individuals in the food service industry, armed services, law enforcement, healthcare, cosmetology and other career fields from around Beaufort County.

This past year, RCP hosted guest speakers Ms. South Carolina State University and Officer Jim Prusinowski, a law enforcement officer with the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office. Both guests shared personal stories about their school experiences as well as their workplace day-to-day activities. Students also had an opportunity to participate in Stop-the-Bleed, a program offered by the Burton Fire Department and organized by RCP's school nurse Karen Stoddard. During the holidays, RCP students participated in Socks-for-Seniors, a community service project where they turned pairs of socks donated by staff members into sock “cupcakes.” The students hand-delivered the cupcakes to the Bayview Nursing Home where they spread holiday cheer amongst the residents.

Service learning opportunities provide RCP students with an deeper understanding of community and the importance of community service.
